Just recently I was hanging out with my good friend and fitness
model (from Canada) Vince Del Monte. I met Vince a few years ago
and we’ve remained very good friends…
I don’t know if you if you’ve ever met him, seen his videos
or his pictures but he’s pretty much the “go to guy” for
muscle building advice in our circle of friends and online
fitness community.
You may know Vince as the guy who was once called “Wimpy
Skinny Vinny” and gained 41-lbs of muscle in 6-months then went
on to become a National Fitness Model Champion and author.
What you may not know is that Vince couldn’t crack 190-lbs and
hit a crazy rut after – probably very similar to your own rut.
190-lbs became his “limit” and according to the experts – a
plateau he should have accepted as “normal” and not
questioned.
But over the last 2-years, Vince has made a DISCOVERY!
That discovery helped him gain an ADDITIONAL 20-lbs of lean
muscle the past 2-years. He contributes busting through his
plateau to his discovery of the “The 12 Anabolic Targets”
(which works for beginners, intermediate and advanced lifters
alike).
The BEST NEWS: he wants to hook you up with all twelve of them
absolutely free in his brand new 36-page report: The 12 Untapped
Targets To Ignite New Muscle Gains.
No catch except that the report is coming down in 72-hours.
You can get it here:

And this is not a sales pitch for something new and shiny…
it’s a KILLER content that reveals 12 untapped targets you must
hit if you want to ignite new muscle on your body.
You’ll love this! You’ll be able to unlock the target of
your choice later today when you hit the gym.

The 5×5 system is one of the oldest muscle building programs in the book and has stuck around forever. 5×5 is good and 5×5 is bad; it just depends on the situation. There are a few ways that the 5×5 muscle building system is implemented.
The first way that people use the 5×5 system to build muscle is that they warm up to a weight and then stick with that weight for five sets of five. So you need to choose a weight that you can handle for that many sets. In essence, the fifth set will be the only set that is quite difficult. This is a decent method to build muscle but largely a waste of time for anyone but a beginner. There is too much volume at an intensity that is too low building muscle. For beginners and early intermediates, I think the 5×5 system is a good one. When you are neurologically inefficient, you seem to respond better to a few more repeated efforts. I still don’t know if five sets are really necessary though; 3×5 is probably better in most cases.
The next way people employ the 5×5 system in an attempt to build muscle is by starting with a heavy weight that they can barely get five reps with and then lowering the weight with each significant set. Again, I think this is too much. The only set that was worth doing was the first and maybe the second. This is not the optimal way to build muscle.
The third way I have seen this system employed to build muscle is to work up to a heavy weight that you can barely get five with and then keeping that weight for the next four sets, no matter how many reps you get. Progression is made each week by trying to get more reps in the subsequent sets. This is a favorite of one particular egomaniacal strength coach and like everything else he recommends, is total crap.
The last way that the 5×5 system is used to build muscle is by doing five increasingly heavier sets so that only your last set is tough. Basically the other sets are warm ups so you are really just warming up to a five rep max or very close to it. If this is the case, it’s really 1×5 and not 5×5. It’s a bit of a misnomer. But if I had to pick one, this would be the best method.
Working up to a five rep max and then a down set at 90% of your best is an even better option for building muscle. Or you could do a very heavy set of five but leave a little something in the tank and then go for broke on the second set. There is some evidence which shows that this second option may even be the better choice simply because the body may not function optimally during the first heavy set. This is due to the laws of homeostasis and various things of this nature. The first set causes shock and certain protective mechanisms may set it which prevents the first heavy set from actually being the best set. The job of the first heavy set may be to provide neural arousal and prepare the body to go all out on the second set. This is something that people have to play with on their own and see what approach helps them build muscle fastest.

Policemen, firemen and guys in the military have long been looked up to as “poster boys” of optimum fitness. In fact, over the last 15 years or so, there have probably been no less than a hundred different books written on the subject of how any ordinary man can get fit like these guys. And while each of these books or programs has its own approach to getting fit like a policeman, fireman or someone in the military, they all have one thing in common—they don’t look anything like your ordinary gym workouts.
The reason their training routines typically don’t resemble your ordinary workouts is that these guys need to be prepared for any situation. A policeman might suddenly find himself chasing down a suspect, jumping fencings and other obstacles. And when he catches the suspect, he may have to tackle him and wrestle him into submission. A firefighter may have to lift away heavy debris, kick down a solid door and carry a victim down three flights of stairs to safety. And a soldier or military man could wind up in any of these situations or countless others—all of which require strength, agility, endurance and speed.
Ordinary gym routines just don’t help guys to simultaneously develop all these abilities. A bodybuilding workout can make your muscles look good but they may not be all that strong. Strongman and powerlifting routines can help you build strength but neither one is going to be that useful for developing speed. A cardio workout will help you make gains in speed and endurance but it completely wrecks your size and strength.
And particularly if you’re in the military you very well may not even have access to anything but the most rudimentary gym equipment. I’ve actually been getting a lot of emails from military guys—most of them stationed overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan—who tell me that they’ve been doing the hybrid workouts and have been getting some really awesome results. These guys have got it rough. A lot of them are out in the little of nowhere, their movements are completely restricted and they’ve gotten nothing to train with but stuff they can find laying around.
If you’ve learned anything about hybrid workouts, you should already know that this is really the ideal scenario that really gives these guys the opportunity to take full advantage of hybrid training. Working with the things around them—truck tires, ropes, chains, sandbags, heavy pipes, barrels or any other number of odd items—these soldiers have been able to get back to basics and train the way our ancestors used to live. And like our ancestors, these soldiers find that they’re getting big, strong and lean.
They’re getting these results because they’re actually developing hybrid type III muscle fibers, which are not only strong, but they’re able to sustain their strength for extended periods. Ordinary muscle fibers just can’t do that. And because they’re combining both resistance and cardio training, in addition to developing strength—and size—they’re also building speed, agility and endurance.
Reading through the emails I’ve gotten from some of the soldiers, I’m seeing a variety of different hybrid workouts. Here are some examples:
- Truck tire flip—this one is great for building functional strength and working the core;
- Barrel jumps—good for agility and power;
- Farmer’s walk with rock or sand-filled pails—excellent for developing endurance;
- Dragging trucks and other heavy equipment—builds power and endurance;
- Variations of the keg training using barrels—awesome core workouts.
These are just a few of the examples of the types of hybrid workouts they’re figuring out how to do while they are stationed overseas.
But it’s not just the military boys who are realizing the benefits of hybrid workouts—I see it becoming more and more popular among policemen and firefighters too. I have a buddy who is a member of a SWAT team in Atlanta who absolutely swears by hybrid workouts. He says that they’ve really helped him to perform better on the job. He gave me a great example of how a recent high speed chase led to a foot chase through the woods and ended up in a wrestling match with my buddy pinning the culprit and bringing him to justice.
Knowing what we know about them, it comes as no surprise that hybrid workouts are quickly gaining popularity among those guys who are charged with protecting the public safety—the results just can’t be beat.
Hey guys,
I was a little skeptical about the claims of the new program Lean Hybrid Muscle by Elliott Hulse, and Mike Westerdal….
SO i decided to find out for myself if this prgram really isnt a scam and can back up its claims of building muscle and burning fat at the same time…
They say you are able to burn fat and build muscle at the same time but being in the the fitness industry for over 7 years i had to get my hands on an advanced copy…
So i contacted Elliott and he shot me over a test copy of the book and some of the workouts he has been testing in the lean hybrid muscle training style…
First thing I noticed was how very well put together the entire manual is, it is very easy to understand and implement immedietly. The are chapters on everything from in the gym hybrid lifts to things you can do outside with no equipment…
Secondly, there is a nutrition section that shows you what kind of foods you should be eating to get the maximum resilts from the program…
I also liked how they put everything in a step by step fashion, meaning everything was laid out weeks 1-4 do this weeks 4-8 do this and me having a hard time staying focused it was awesome to mnot have to think about anything and just go lift…
Here some highlights on how lean hybrid muscle is put together…
-Combination of powerlifting,strongman,bodyweight, and bodybuilding in easy follow hybrid workouts that can be done anywhere in the gym or outside…
-Very easy to follow step by step system with everything laid out even including a nutrition secion on eating for optimum muscle building…
-Huge variety of exercise selection so you are not limited to only the gym or only strongman this program can literly be used by anybody regardless of there training situation…
So all in all i was very impressed with the Lean Hybrid Muscle building program and it brings a new perspective on an awesome way of training to build muscle and burn fat at the same time…
